REDESO has recently completed preparing its five year strategic plan (2009-2014); The plan aims to promote and enhance sustainable development to the most vulnerable communities and empowerment of those communities so as to make sure none is disadvantaged by their situation in life and are able to access and benefit from full range of opportunities available. This is to be achieved through capacity enhancement interventions and provision of relief services.

Vulnerable communities in Tanzania are characterized by extreme poverty and hunger, poor agricultural production efficiency, inadequate exposure to environment management practices and proper ways of harnessing natural resources. In addition high illiteracy rate, obsolete cultural beliefs, corruption, pandemic HIV/AIDS as well as gender inequality are also factors that amount to cause of vulnerability in these communities.

REDESO strategic plan (2009 -2014) will work through accomplishing four strategic goals:

  • Promoting sustainable environmental management practices.
  • Engaging in development initiatives that promote social economic wellbeing and empowerment of communities.
  • Collaborating with other stakeholders in providing relief services to victims of natural and manmade disasters
  • Strengthening REDESO’s organization capacity for effective performance of its function.

The National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP) was used as the main reference document during preparation of the REDESO strategic plan (2009 -2014). In this REDESO strategic plan the 3 out of 4 goals directly address the broad goals of the NSGRP. The first goal of the REDESO strategic plan addresses goal number 3 of the first broad outcome of cluster II of the NSGRP while the second and third goals of the REDESO strategic plan addresses both cluster I and II of the NSGRP. REDESO’ Strategic plan will therefore focus on Growth and Reduction of Income Poverty (cluster I of NSGRP) and also improved quality of life and social well being (cluster II of NSGRP).

The document is divided into 3 main segments. In the introductory part, background information of REDESO is depicted. Furthermore the rationale for this strategic plan is explained in this part. The second part includes SWOT analysis carried as well as the reviewed vision, mission, core values, goals and objectives. Logical framework matrix which encompasses milestones of this strategic plan concludes the second part. The final part of this strategic plan is budget, monitoring and Evaluation; this is very important aspect in the implementation of the strategic plan, which will be carried out on the basis of the logical framework of the strategic plan and operational plans.

Monitoring reports will give a picture of the implementation of the operation plans, while the evaluation will help organization to reflect on the implementation after certain plan duration. In general, the mechanism will allow for standardized monitoring and evaluation process in the organization, and enabled programs being reviewed and updated as necessary in the future based on experiences and lessons learnt. REDESO plans to use at least US $ 9.3 Million during the plan period. The funding is expected to come from various donors both internal and external, beneficiaries’ contribution as well as collaborating partners.
