Relief to Development Society (REDESO)

Relief to Development Society (REDESO) is a Tanzania national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) first registered in June 1998 under the Society Ordinance, 1954 (Registration number S.O. No. 9459), and registered again in May 2005 with registration No. 1466 under Non-Governmental Organization Act, 2002. The main objectives of the organization focus on relief and community development programs. For over 20 years, the organization has supported refugees, asylum seekers and local communities in Kagera, Kigoma, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Tabora, Shinyanga, Simiyu and Katavi Regions in Tanzania. 

REDESO is a long time serving partner with UNHCR from 1998 to date in serving Burundian and Congolese refugees in North-western Tanzania and urban caseload in Dar es Salaam. The organization managed the DAFI Scholarship-Tertiary Education for Refugees. REDESO worked in partnership with OXFAM (GB) and Oxfam Hong Kong, CONCERN WORLDWIDE,  DANIDA, CAFOD (UK), JIFPRO, WFP, and  UNICEF.

REDESO has its head office situated along plot No. 40 Urambo Street, Kinondoni B, Kinondoni Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with field offices in Kibondo and Kasulu (Kigoma Region), Ngara (Kagera Region) and Kishapu (Shinyanga) Districts in Kigoma, Kagera and Shinyanga Regions respectively. 

The organization is engaged in Humanitarian and Community Development projects implemented under the humanitarian to development nexus concept. In the areas of our operation, Local Government has been always one of our key partners.

REDESO has well-structured governance which is governed by the Governing Board comprising of six members with gender balance representation. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) oversees the administration of day to day activities of the organization. Under the CEO, there are Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO), Senior Finance Manager, Senior Programme Manager and field Program Coordinators to support the program operations of the organization. To strengthen governance, the organization has clear documented personnel, procurement, and financial manuals.

The financial accounts of the organization are audited by an internal and external audit team from the partner and organization’s external auditor for safeguarding partners’ funds and financial management integrity. The organization has past experience in partners’ funds’ management. For example, the organization in the past has managed a total of US $ 14,332,036.76 portfolio of funds.
